Spaulding reports to Brigadier General James Chatham Duane, chief engineer, Army of the Potomac, on the construction of roads and bridges in Virginia between March 29 and June 2, 1865. At the conclusion of the report is a chart of 86 pontoon bridges built under his command from September 1862, one of the expense for siege material at Petersburg, and general remarks on equipment and organization.
